World Aids Day 2015

Amahlathi Local Municipality SPU and the Community Services Department partnering with the EC Department of Health hosted World Aids Day in Keiskammahoek on the 19th of November 2015. The main purpose of the event was to educate people not to stigmatize and discriminate against people living with HIV &AIDS by saying “I can’t change my HIV status but you can change your attitude”. One of the reasons to host such an event was remembering all those who had fallen because of HIV & AIDS. Councillor Monti was among the speakers and he stated that our country is in a better space than it used to be, “Our government is playing a vital role in terms of creating an environment that is conducive to all citizens. Integrated programmes were developed for all sector departments to share information about HIV & AIDS and how they can help affected and infected communities. A certain day was dedicated and named as “A World Aids Day” where we can all celebrate and honour those who fought HIV & AIDS.” Councillor Busika said that people must learn to talk about HIV & AIDS freely. Nutritious diet is very important when taking treatment. HIV & AIDS is not a death sentence but a manageable virus. While the event was underway the Department of Health provided services on wheels, for all those who wanted to do health screening and collect their chronic medication. Back to basics, Bringing services to the people.
